Fancy Dress At A New Year Rally
After another job move we joined the Buckingham centre; wow, they might be a small centre but they were VERY friendly and got up to all sorts on their rallies! It didn't take us long to make friends and settle with this centre, Andi took to the centre so much that she even joined the committee, where she was the Resale Officer, a position she held for 3 years. She could often be seen on the rally field 'wheeling and dealing' her best seller were windbreaks! This gave us a completely different insight into rallying, mainly the organisation that went into running a centre.
Their New Year rallies were legendary; the time, thought and effort that went into these rallies was superb (as with all rallies) from the moment you arrived to the time you left there was always something on. The ralliers were split into teams and throughout the day there were competitions for all to enter, which everyone did. In the evening we were entertained by professional acts and fellow ralliers which were always excellent.
Bucks were also good at organising celebration rallies; their birthday rallies held during Easter rallies were always good fun. One of the ralliers would always make a large cake for everyone to enjoy at closing Flag. Another favourite rally in the year would be the Chairman's rally, the pig roast and entertainment held in the marquee in 2003 was particularly memorable. Even the weather was beautiful that year.
One of the advantages of our location meant that if the Buckinhamshire Centre weren't running a rally (they were a small centre with only 300 members) we could easily visit another centre, Berkshire Centre, Bedfordshire Centre, Hertfordshire Centre, North London Centre, Middlesex Centre and Upper Thames Centre, which added a new dimension to our rallying. We even managed to receive Friendship Plaques from Berkshire we visited them so often!
Although we moved away from the area we stayed with the centre and still rallied with them, albeit infrequently. When we met up on a holiday rally in 2005 on the Isle of Wight it was as though we hadn't been away. What a fantastic 10 days.
We still meet up with our friends from 'Bucks' and soon get chatting about the 'old days' and the great times we had back then!
