Fancy Dress At A Rally
After a few trips out in our new van, mainly on the island of Anglesey we found that we were thoroughly enjoying all of the new mod cons that come with caravans. I talked Andi into going on our first rally, convincing her that it was just a 'grown up' form of what we had been doing on our motorbikes. I had been on caravan rallies in the 1970's with my parents and I had had a great time.
So we joined the North Wales Centre in the October of 1994 and went to the Rhyl Christmas shopping rally in the November. It wasn't the best start to our rallying career, no one spoke to us until the Sunday morning as we were about to leave! But we had enjoyed ourselves.
We decided to give rallying a second chance and booked on to a New Year rally. That rally was FANTASTIC, everyone chatted to us like we were long lost friends, the food was great and the entertainment was brilliant; we still talk about that rally with fond memories. And, we are still the best of friends with some of the ralliers we met way back then.
After that successful rally we couldn't book rallies quick enough! We attended 27 rallies during 1995 and found we were having a ball. There was so much choice; walking, sports, quizzes, dancing, fancy dress, rallies run in conjunction with local events.
In 1996 we decided to attend our first Welsh National rally (all of the 6 Welsh Centres and some of the English Centres join together over the summer Bank Holiday for a weekend of friendship and sports) and found the rally to be the highlight of our rallying year; we have subsequently done 18 Welsh Nationals in a row.
When we left North Wales in 1998, due to my job, we had attended 160 fantastic rallies. We still visit North Wales rallies and are welcomed back like long lost friends; brilliant.
