Flora Day - Helston
Bude Carnival
After another move with work, this time a long way south west, to a place called Helston, which is about 20 miles from Lands End! Although we didn't actually join the Devon and Cornwall centre, they wouldn't count our previous 500 plus rallies, we still made some new friends and joined in with their rallies.
Some of the distances we travelled to rallies were amazing, as the Devon and Cornwall area is massive, from Helston it was 172 miles to the top of the centre's area! And, in the summer, it used to take so long to get anywhere with all of the holiday traffic, sorry that should have read grockles, LOL. But, on the plus side, some of the venues were FANTASTIC, one of our favourite sites was the Tintagel rally field which was overlooking the rocky atlantic coast line. To try and help with the huge distances Devon and Cornwall used to organise one rally in Devon and one rally in Cornwall each weekend.
Devon and Cornwall centre used a lot of commercial sites which, when visited out of the main holiday season as we did, proved to be very popular and enjoyable to us.
There are many local events held in Devon and Cornwall, Flora Day, 'Obby 'Oss Day, Bude Carnival, the Royal Cornwall Show to name but a few and the rallies that were ran in conjuction with these events were brilliant. Our caravan was sited about 200 yards from our front door at the Flora Day rally; it would have been quicker to go home for the water as opposed to going up to the top of the field! But I didn't.
Although we haven't met up with anyone from Devon and Cornwall for a long time our memories from those rallies are still with us, in particular the dancing in and out of the shops during Flora Day, amazing!
