A Snowy Morning!
Our last move, following a career change, saw us settling down in the heart of Cheshire, which turned out to be a fantastic location for rallying. Some of the rally locations are less than 5 miles away from home and certainly makes for short journey times, which was a nice change after spending time in the south west and the long distances we had to travel.
When the Rally Officers on our first rally found out that we had only moved house on the Wednesday, two days before, they were suitably impressed! We instantly became friends with them along with another couple who rallied most weekends. The Cheshire Centre used to hold an informal competition to see who acheived their annual plaque first, (attend 12 rallies in a year) it didn't take us long to be winning that accolade, but both couples made us work for it and continue to do so!
In the September 2006 we both joined the committee, which we both found hard work but rewarding. Andrea stayed on the committee until 2014 where she was the Invitations Officer; displaying the other 69 centre rally brochures at weekends for other people to look at was a novelty for Cheshire ralliers, but it was something that we were used to from 'down south'. I became the Rally Secretary in 2008 and held that post for 5 years. In 2011 I was elected as one of the centre's Vice Chairmen, a position I held until 2017 when I was elected to be the Centre's Chairman. A very proud moment indeed. Throughout my time on committee I was the Web Master for the centre's web site.
We ran our first rally for the Cheshire Centre at Lady Margaret's Park in 2007, with a title of Chicken and Chocolate at Chirk it had to be a great success, even the weather was on our side. Ralliers still talk about the fun they had and the trophies that they won. We run 10 rallies a year now, which is hard work but brings us both a lot of pleasure. Most of our rallies have a theme, like the Pudding Club or Computers or, they are run in conjunction with a local event, like Marbury Merry Days. In total we have organised 98 rallies so far for the Cheshire Centre (2018).
We were told that the Cheshire Centre organised a lot of rallies; and they do, about 120 a year! This means that most weekends there are more than one rally on per weekend, at Easter there are upto 8 rallies! With that number of rallies we are spoilt for choice. We were / are still in rally heaven!
Like all centres, Cheshire put on some fantastic rallies, in particular the Mayday, Christmas and New year rallies are legendary. My favourite rally, bar none, were the Christmas rallies held at Silverdale in Cumbria. From the moment you arrived to the time you left there was food available, (which is my favourite part of Christmas), culiminating in a Christmas lunch at a local hotel. That is the only time in my life where I have actually declined more food, there was just that much of it! The site location, right above the beach was fantastic, stunning views and wondeful scenery. We had five memorable Christmas rallies there, shame they ended.
All in all we have had some, and are still having some, wonderful times all round the country, long may it continue.
